History
In 1991, a group of businessmen, entrepreneurs and visionaries created Financiera Comercial Hondureña S.A. in Honduras.
The success of this financial institution and the conviction of the partners to keep investing in Honduras led to the founding of BANCO FICOHSA, S.A. which opened its doors to the public on July 18, 1994.
FICOHSA Casa de Cambio began operations in 1992, the first currency exchange office authorized by the Central Bank of Honduras. In 1993, FICOHSA Casa de Bolsa was created as an active player in the national stock market.
In 1996, the group acquired FICOHSA Seguros, a company with extensive experience in the Honduran insurance market.
- In 2005, the Comisión Nacional de Bancos y Seguros (CNBS – National Commission of Banks and Insurers) authorized the creation and operation of Grupo Financiero FICOHSA, made up of the following leading companies in the national and regional markets:
- Banco FICOHSA, S.A.
- FICOHSA Seguros, S.A.
- FICOHSA Casa de Cambio
- FICOHSA Casa de Bolsa
To extend its success and rapid growth, Banco FICOHSA expanded in Central America. In 2011, it opened its doors in Panama as an international bank, and in 2013 it began operations of Ficohsa Tarjetas after operating with an international license for two years.
During 2012, the group began operations in Guatemala as a bank and issuer of credit cards. Growth in the region continued in 2014 with the acquisition of Tarjetas de Citibank in Honduras, and in 2015 with the acquisition of Citibank Nicaragua, solidifying GFF's position as one of the fastest growing groups in the region.
